McDonald’s and Weight Watchers: We’re Not Lovin’ It

McDonald's has been the subject of documentaries, books, and the growing waistline of many individuals. Most people who frequent McDonald's aren't looking for a healthy, nutritious meal; they're looking for a quick bite to satisfy a craving. Sure, there are healthy options, but are they healthy enough for someone who is actively looking to lose or maintain weight?

According to Weight Watchers that answer is yes. Shocked? I am too! Weight Watchers New Zealand has decided to endorse three meals from McDonald's menu, giving each of them a 6.5 Point value:

 ItemCalories
Total Fat
 SodiumProtein
6-Piece Chicken Nuggets with Mustard Dipping Sauce and a Garden Salad with Balsamic Dressing 376 23.6g
 745mg 15.1g
 Filet-o-Fish Burger and Garden Salad with Balsamic Dressing 370 15.9g 844mg 16.9g
 Sweet Chili Seared Chicken Wrap 374 9.8g 801mg 26.3g

The endorsement is only in New Zealand, and does not apply to any other country, but how many people will look at it regardless of country? I feel many people will be thinking, "If I've seen one McDonald's, I've seen them all," and decide that even though the endorsement is only in New Zealand, it "probably" applies here too.

What are your thoughts on this endorsement? Do you feel that the average dieter may now feel as if it's okay to eat McDonald's everywhere? I'd love to hear your opinion on this!

You're right. It seemingly applies here, too. When I first saw the article, I had no idea it was only in New Zealand. My guess is that McDonald's is testing this out and, if successful, they'll market it in other countries, too. In fact, I'll bet you a Big Mac that's exactly what they'll do.
