Offering Incentives to Encourage Dieters to Keep Appointments

As the season changes and we migrate out of the dog days of summer and into the jam packed schedule of fall, dieters may struggle to maintain regular program visits to your weight loss center.
So what can you do to boost the frequency of their visits?
1. Offer Different Hours: Early morning, late evening, or weekend hours may be the only times many dieters can fit it all in when working full time.
2. Offer Incentives: You might be thinking that success is enough motivation, but a free product, small gift card, or free movie ticket third appointment kept (for example) can be a big motivation.
3. Host a Bring-a-Friend Night: Inviting your dieters to bring a friend for support or to “buddy up” with someone on their weight loss journey could be the external help they need to find success. And, you might just get another dieter out of it!
4. Take a Survey: Seek the feedback of your dieters regarding big and small issues (everything from programs and services to parking availability and childcare). Consider making a two or three question card to leave in your waiting area with a box to place completed ones in so responses are anonymous and easy to provide. You may uncover an unknown but easy to fix issue that was keeping potential dieters away.
Weight loss providers: What other incentives do you offer to your dieter to encourage them to keep appointments.
Dieters: What types of incentives do you think your center (or prospective center) should offer that could work for you?
