Resolve to Do Something Better
Posted by Kelli Arruzzo on Thu, Dec 30, 2010
For years now, whenever I’ve asked my dad what his New Year’s Resolution was going to be, his response has been, “I’m giving up broccoli [or cauliflower, or some other vegetable that he doesn’t ever eat].” It seems like the no-fail way to make a resolution: Resolve to be something you already are, do something you already do, or continue to abstain from something you already go without.
That doesn’t sound so hard, but it also doesn’t sound like next year is going to be any different than this one. So instead, I’m going to resolve to do something better. This way I’m setting myself up for a win and not creating some lofty (and possibly unrealistic) goal.
So if you’re with me on this and are looking for ways that you can do something better, consider resolving:
To park in the last row at work instead of the first. You’re going to walk into work either way, so why not give yourself a couple extra steps?
Further your knowledge.
Weight Loss Center Managers: Consider attending our Key Operating Statistics webcast at 2:00 pm EST, January 12th. You’ll learn to evaluate and monitor your program, staff, and marketing efforts and define areas for improvement. Visit www.robard.com/webcast for more information.
Weight Loss Counselors, join our 30-minute conference call each month. This month’s call, America’s Obesity Epidemic: Fingertip Facts for Staff. Register for either January 18th call at 11:00 am EST or the January 19th call at 4:00 pm EST by visiting www.robard.com/conferencecall. (Please note: Our staff training calls are open to Robard customers only.)
To keep a food diary. By doing this, you aren’t resolving to change your eating habits, just to monitor them. Seeing trends in your eating (healthy and un-healthy) will help you better understand what changes you may need to make in the future.
Spend more time with your friends and family. This one shouldn’t be very hard, but by getting up and getting out, you’ll spend less time behind a computer or in front of the TV and more time doing something.
Of course there are many ways you can resolve to do something better, so I’d love to know what your New Year’s resolution is. Leave it in the comments section below.
