Do Good. Be Good. And Lose Some Weight While You’re at It!

This upcoming weekend, I’ll be participating in a local Relay for Life walk to support those who have battled cancer, to remember loved ones, and to raise money for and the awareness of the fight against cancer. So, when it’s my turn to walk – as Relay for Life entails taking turns walking around a track or park during a 24 hour period, with one person from your team on the track at all times– I’ll be striding towards a cause and my own fitness goals.
Here’s where my challenge to you comes in:
Pick a cause, any cause (see the list at the bottom of this entry for a few ideas) and visit that organization’s website for information about their charity run/walk. Keep in mind your current fitness level and aim of participation (social, physical fitness, etc.). For example, if you are just starting out on your fitness plan go for a shorter event, such as a 1 mile walk, or a Relay for Life type event where you only do as much as you can. If you feel up to something a bit more challenging, consider a 5K.
Lose weight while doing good.
While you’re walking, jogging, or running, you’ll be burning calories without hitting the gym for a traditional workout. And because you’re supporting a good cause, you’ll feel better spiritually and emotionally too! To make it even more fun, ask your family and friends, and bring your family pet – if allowed!
Own a fitness center, weight loss clinic, or doctor’s office? Why not sponsor a team? Help build a sense of community with your dieters, in a fun, out of the office event, that is both supportive and will help your dieters take another step towards accomplishing their weight loss goals!
When you sign up for an event – or if you already are – let us know in the comments section below so we can cheer you, and your cause, on!
