Five Years Later, They Are a New Direction Success Story

When joining a weight loss program, it is the hope of each individual to not only lose weight, but to keep it off. For Jan and Adam Bridge, this commitment has become a new way of life.

Their five year long journey began back in 2006, when both Jan and Adam joined The Hernried Center, a New Direction Center in California led by a member of New Direction’s Medical Advisory Panel. On New Direction’s Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD), Jan and Adam participated in a full liquid diet, consuming supplements supplied to them by their physician, while also visiting him for regular checkups to make sure they were losing weight safely. In seven months, Adam lost 110 pounds, and in nine months Jan lost 130 pounds.

However, their journey wasn’t over. Once they reached their goal weights, they transitioned into maintenance, learned to change many of their unhealthy behaviors, and developed a regimented lifestyle that has helped them maintain their success five years later. For Jan, this includes:

  • Weighing herself every morning and keeping a weight diary
  • Looking up calories for everything she eats, weighing all foods before she cooks
  • Keeping a detailed food diary
  • Exercising 100 to 120 minutes a day, six or seven days a week

As Adam relayed to a The Davis Enterprise reporter, “I hope (the article) helps people understand the incredible complexity that’s involved with weight maintenance; that it’s much better to keep a low-weight body than it is to regain one… That there is no one right path for everyone. We are all different and each of us has to seek what works individually. It’s complex, takes work and focus, and a sense of self.”

So, if weight maintenance sounds like hard work, that’s because it is! But, with the help of a support system of professionals, as the Bridges had, it is possible. They’ll help you to find what works for you and provide you with the support and tools you need. Take the next step today – and find a provider in your area.
